A long time ago i was also considering opening my own MR company, a panel, all automated: a shiny toy. At that time i knew next to nothing about the reality in this world. I thought $50,000 would be enough to get me started. And that’s not crazy to set aside when you think you’ll be rich from owning your own business. lol

But then I actually got into a role that allowed me to really go deep into what it costs to run a panel. Shit me! I was nowhere close! And loans, like you said, are next to impossible when all you have are ideas.

I abandoned the idea. But i am thankful that i got to learn the lesson.

It is possible to make it work. You just need more cash up front.

PS: i wonder if there’s a marketplace for panel apps/tools… with so many people going head first and braking teeth, there’s probably loads of tools out there that just got abandoned.

My 18-month journey as an MR “entrepreneur” sounds eerily similar to yours (after quitting my full-time job). Like you, I tried EVERYTHING (much of which overlaps yours), and I really believed that if I worked every possible angle, I’d be in the right place at the right time to catch the lucky break I needed to really just get to the starting line. I had some successes, but I never caught the big break, and after 18 months, I had to cut bait. I don’t regret my 18 months because had I not done it, I would have regretted it the rest of my life. May you get the break you seek.
